International Day of Yoga is celebrated by the Assistant High Commission of India for the first time in Sylhet at Abul Mal Abdul Muhit Sports Complex’s gymnasium.
Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice originated in India. The idea of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by the current Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA, on 27 September 2014.
Following this initial proposal, the UNGA held informal consultations on the draft resolution entitled “International Day of Yoga”, on 14 October 2014.
Every year this special day is celebrated by the High commission of India. This year the Assistant High Commission of India, Sylhet has celebrated this day for the first time. There was significant response and enthusiasm among the participants regarding this event. When the program began at 10 am the whole indoor stadium was teeming. Men and women from all ages were present there.
Adv. Bhusanjit Choudhury who is also the founding principal of ‘Bayambandhu Yoga Institute’ at Moulvibazar was the instructor of today’s event. He stated the importance of Yoga among the participants.
Mayor Mr. Ariful Haque Chaudhury who was the chief guest of today’s event stated that Yoga is very important for sound health and mind. He also assured that he would provide all sorts of assistance to the AHCI, Sylhet for establishing Yoga training center in Sylhet.
Mr. L. Krishnamurthy the honorable Assistant High Commissioner of India appointed in Sylhet, Mr. Girish C. Pujari (Second Secretary) along with other reputed figures in city were participated in the event.
